What is a ball mill?

The ball mill is the core grinding equipment that crushes materials and then finely grinds them. It is widely used in industries such as mining, building materials, cement, organic fertilizers, and chemical engineering to grind ores, stones, and solid raw materials into fine powder.

Working principle of ball mill

Steel balls/ceramic balls (grinding media) are installed inside the cylinder. When the cylinder rotates, the steel balls are lifted, dropped, rolled, and collided with the grinding material; By relying on the impact and friction of steel balls, block shaped particles are ground into fine powder.

Main structure of ball mill

Cylinder: Wear resistant steel plate cylinder, lined with wear-resistant lining plate to protect the cylinder
Grinding media: steel balls, steel segments, ceramic balls, choose materials according to the material
Transmission system: motor, reducer, gear, drives the cylinder to rotate
Inlet and outlet end: feeding at the inlet and discharging ground powder at the outlet

Two major classifications of ball mills (by working mode)

1. Dry ball mill
The material does not contain water and is ground into powder as dry material. It is commonly used as raw material for ores, cement, and organic fertilizers.
2. Wet ball mill
Grinding with water and discharging slurry, commonly used in the mineral processing industry.
According to the unloading method: grid type, overflow type; According to the length of the cylinder: short ball mill, long tube ball mill.
