A
disc granulator is a key piece of equipment in fertilizer production lines, widely used for granulating powdery materials into spherical or oval granules. It is particularly common in organic fertilizer, compound fertilizer, and mineral fertilizer production due to its simplicity, efficiency, and adaptability to various raw materials.
The disc granulator consists of an inclined rotating disc (typically with an angle of 30°–50°), a driving device, and a material feeding system. The process works as follows:
- Powdery raw materials (e.g., decomposed organic matter, fertilizer powders) are fed into the rotating disc.
- A small amount of water or binder is sprayed onto the materials to increase their viscosity.
- As the disc rotates, the materials are continuously lifted, turned, and rolled by centrifugal force and gravity. Gradually, fine particles agglomerate into larger, spherical granules.
- Once the granules reach the desired size (usually 2–6 mm), they overflow from the edge of the disc due to the disc’s inclination and are collected for subsequent processing (e.g., drying, cooling).
- Simple structure: Easy to operate, maintain, and install, making it suitable for small to medium-sized production lines.
- Adjustable granule size: By modifying the disc’s rotation speed, inclination angle, or material feeding rate, the size of the granules can be controlled.
- Good granule quality: Produced granules are spherical, uniform in size, and have high strength, reducing breakage during transportation.
- Wide applicability: Works with various raw materials, including organic materials (livestock manure, crop straw), inorganic fertilizers (urea, phosphate rock), and mixtures thereof.
- Organic fertilizer production: Granulating decomposed manure, compost, or sludge into easy-to-store and apply organic granules.
- Compound fertilizer production: Granulating blended nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) powders into balanced compound fertilizer granules.
- Mineral fertilizer processing: Granulating mineral powders (e.g., limestone, gypsum) into granular form for agricultural or industrial use.
